Are you coaching next year?

This week’s coaching corner question is simple. Are you coaching next season?

Given the time required to coaching a soccer team, I can’t help but think that some people just don’t have the time to coach next year. What are your plans for next season? Will you be coaching the same team or a new group?

I was an assistant coach for the first time this year. I plan on coaching the
same team next season. We played a total of 14 games and won 12, lost 1, and
tied 1. It was a great experience. We had a total of 3 coaches(1 Head coach for
last 2 years, me as an assistant, and another dad who had 10 years experience
as a referee.) It was good combination. We had 18 coed players(9 boys, 9 girls ages
12-15). The biggest problem we had was substitutions. We played 24 minutes per
half. We had all experince levels from 1 year playing to 9 years. I loved your
soccer related emails. The drills were also a big help!!! I am looking forward
    to the next season.

We never stop, right now it is approximately -20 outside with 4-6 inches of snow so we are in the first part of our indoor season, we play a 5+keeper arena style game. Outdoor won’t start for us till May, but I expect to be coaching again. Like most, I coach because my daughters play, my oldest has now gone onto Womens, and my younger daughter is U16. I understand the time constraints that many face but soccer has been such a positive way to connect with my daughters that I will coach them as long as I can. When they are both done youth, I may continue coaching adult but more likely just continue reffing and training keepers. I’ll probably keep playing till I go from masters to Legends to “walker” soccer.

I will be coaching the same team next year. I think its important for coaches to stay with the same team as they progress. When a team has a new coach every year its hard for all players on the team to buy into a system and all be on the same page.

With a new coach every year, its basically pulling all the pieces apart and starting all over again.

Im planning on staying with this team for atleast 3 years with a goal of taking them to a provincal championship.

What do you guys think? Have any of you obtained a provincal or state championship with your team?
