At the age of twelve, my team played over 80 games in the season. We traveled all the way from California to Louisiana and even Canada. I can’t believe the amount of money the parents on our team spent taking us all over North America. Reflecting back on it, I lived and breathed soccer for 9/12 months of the year, and this was one of the most fun seasons of my youth.

Along these lines, I would like to know what level and age group you coach, and about how many games your team plays per year, including how many of these games are league and how many are tournaments. If you don’t coach, how many teams does your child’s team play in an average season?

What formation do you play with your team? Do you change during a single game or from game to game, or do you stick it out with the same formation all the time? If you leave a comment, make sure to mention your age group and level of play.

Every team has them. Players who for whatever reason are a little behind their peers. The question becomes, where do you play these players? Conventional wisdom says you play them where they hurt you the least. What do you do?  Please comment

We had only a few responses this week. I guess coaches don’t like to share their embarrassing moments with the rest of the world.

“One card for swearing, and yes I deserved it, but the call did suck”

“I am proud to say I have never received a yellow or red card. Of course, my daughter is only 12, so I suppose we are just starting to get to the age where things get competitive, and my chances go up”

“I have got 2 yellows over the last 4 seasons, one of which was deserved. The other was a card happy ref, and a very emotional game. I take full responsibility for the other one, though.”
