U.S. Ties Slovenia: Referee Koman Coulibaly screws U.S.

There is nothing worse than a referee deciding the outcome of a match, let alone a game on the world’s biggest stage. What just happened between the U.S. and Slovenia was a disgrace to the game, and the effort the U.S. team exerted in the second half.

The feeling of being down two goals, to have Landon Donovan single handedly put the team back in the game with a goal seconds into the 2nd half was exhilarating. Bradley’s tying goal was all the more uplifting. To come back from that deficit only to take the lead with minutes left, and then have that goal reversed is nothing short of a travesty for the game, the U.S. team and U.S. soccer as a whole. So what can be done about it? (goal is at :22 seconds)

Well for one, the Referee Koman Coulibaly should be investigated for corruption, because he has to be on the take.  Either that or he hates the U.S. and should have never been refereeing this game in the first place. Eric Wynalda agrees:

Minutes after the game ended, some U.S. fan had already taken to vandalizing his Wikipedia page, which has sense been edited:

“Coulibaly is rumored to hate the United States of America with the burning passion of a white hot sun.”

In my opinion, Ref’s blowing calls is as old as the game itself, and it isn’t going to change. At the least, FIFA should consider video replay for goal scoring plays, similar to the rule instituted by Major League Baseball for home runs. It is a slippery slope to add video replay, but if it means the right team wins the game, I am all for it. What do you think?

When Soccer and Politics Collide

220px-GordonBrown1234_cropped_Trailing Conservatives in the polls, Labour Party leaders are suggesting collectivization of professional soccer clubs, giving fans the opportunity to purchase up to 25% of their hometown club. Despite the fact that many fans support the measure, they don’t appear to be  fooled by the ploy. Source

Al Qaeda Threatens World Cup

In a sick and depressing twist, an Al Qaeda affiliated group in North Africa has threatened an attack at the U.S. vs. Britain game during the opening round. While these threats are likely hollow, they are being taken very seriously as they should. Lets all hope for a completely safe and terror free World Cup! Ugly High School Soccer Fight – West Rankin High vs. Gulfport High

This ugly fight led to the season long suspension for #28 on the purple  team, and a 2 game suspension for #9 on the black team. Not sure why #9 suspended, he was clearly the victim.

Fights do happen on the soccer field, especially high school, but this one is especially ugly.

Togo Soccer Team Leaves Angola

An assistant coach and two employees of the Togo national team were murdered while in Angola for The African Cup of Nations  tournament. An ugly situation, and well deserving of The Ugly Truth.

Here is an article that explains the entire situations with the Togo National team leaving Angola

Absurd Behavior on the Soccer Field

A few weeks back, I witnesses some atrocious behavior from the sidelines of a Boys U-14 game. One father in particular was being a real asshole, and got relegated to his car by the center referee. As if this weren’t enough of an embarrassment to his team and family, he put up a stink until the police had to come and force him to leave. When will parents learn that this is just a game?

Introducing The Ugly Truth, where we will expose stories in the soccer news that reflect negatively on the game or those within it. Feel free to submit any articles or soccer videos you think are worthy of being included within The Ugly Truth by sending an email

Take your protest elsewhere! Soccer Mom Shot Dead

The youth soccer field is not a place to prove a point about the 2nd amendment in my opinion. If anything, her death proves this point even further. If you have to bring a gun to a soccer game in order to feel safe, stay at home.

Referees Attacked!

As if Referees didn’t have a tough enough job, imagine what was going through this Ref’s mind as the entire sideline chases him around, and off the field.

This video makes me angry for multiple reasons. First off, the player is so far out of line that he should be kicked off the youth field for good. Next, the Referee is clearly young and probably to young/short to be the center for a game full of overagressive 16-17 year old punks. Whomever scheduled him as the center clearly wasn’t thinking, and hopefully the kid has recovered emotionally to referee again. Just absurd.
